Arsenal have decided to sign David Raya from Brentford on a long-term deal in 2024. Raya joined the Gunners last summer on a one-year loan, with the option to make the switch permanent for £27m. He has already signed a possible long-term contract ahead of the end of his loan next June, Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
Last summer, the North Londoners couldn’t really commit to signing the Spaniard for the long term. They wanted to make sure they didn’t go against Financial Fair Play regulations. The Gunners invested over £200 million last summer to acquire the services of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice.
David Raya vs Ramsdale to intensify
Since joining the Gunners, Raya has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice keeper pushing Aaron Ramsdale to the bench. However, Ramsdale is set to take charge of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brentford. Raya will not be able to take to the field against his parent club, as per Premier League regulations. However, Raya is anticipated to make a return to the first team after the Brentford match.
Raya’s teammate and England international Ramsdale has let in eight goals in seven matches for Arsenal in all competitions this season. Whilst the Spaniard has conceded nine goals in 12 matches for the Gunners.
Raya and Ramsdale are both eager to establish themselves as first-choice players for their respective nations. The battle between the two keepers in the run-up to the 2024 European Championships.

Ramsdale will keep putting pressure on Raya in an effort to re-establish himself as Arsenal’s number one. Saturday’s game could provide him with a rare chance to do so.
It remains to be seen whether he will be able to take advantage of the opportunity, but it would require a strong showing from the England international in order to force Gunners manager Mikel Arteta’s hand to keep him in the starting line-up going forward.
