Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have traded young pacer Avesh Khan for Rajasthan Royal’s (RR) opener Devdutt Padikkal in straight swap ahead of IPL 2024. The BCCI on Wednesday released the statement to confirm the news.
Both young players, who were retained this year by their respective franchises, had a disappointing outing in IPL 2023.
Padikkal, who joined the RR franchise in 2022, played 11 games last season and scored just 261 runs at an average of 26.10 and a strike rate of 130.50 with just two half-centuries.
Meanwhile, pacer Avesh Khan too failed to impress his franchise in the 2023 edition. Avesh had a successful 2022 season, ending the tournament as LSG’s highest wicket-taker.
However, Avesh struggled to hit the same form in the 2023 edition. The young pacer finished IPL 2023 with just eight wickets in nine matches with an economy of 9.75.
Notably, this is only the second trade ahead of the 2024 season so far. Earlier this month, Super Giants had traded Romario Shepherd to Mumbai Indians.
The deadline for the franchises to announce their retention lists has been pushed from November 15 to November 26. The IPL 2024 auction will take place in Dubai on December 19.
