Benjamin Mendy is on a warpath against Manchester City. The Lorient defender has filed a £10 million claim in unpaid wages at an employment tribunal. Manchester City ceased to pay him while he was on trial for sexual offences. The 29-year-old was later cleared of all charges in July. However, the club still did not clear his wages amounting to £100,000 a week in September 2021.

Following Mendy’s retrial, Mendy’s agent had discussions with City regarding back pay. However, the club did not wish to enter into an agreement with the left-back. Mendy’s final appearance for the club was two weeks prior to his conviction.

The World Cup winner, who acknowledged his mistreatment of women during the pre-trial process, has completed a free transfer to Lorient following the expiration of his contract with Manchester City in June.

The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal.”

The HMRC has been attempting to obtain a Bankruptcy order against Mendy in relation to an outstanding tax debt of £788,000. However, the proceedings have been put on hold pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
