The Indian shuttlers seem to be facing the heat in the Paris 2024 qualification year, and it shows in their rankings. Only two players/players are inside the top 10 of the BWF rankings, while the others just continue to struggle. HS Prannoy retained his WR-8 spot, and so did the men’s doubles team of Satwik-Chirag. Unfortunately, the former world No. 1s in men’s and women’s singles, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth are in the latter category, where they haven’t come up with a performance of substance in a year.

Saina Nehwal & Kidambi Srikanth’s 2023 in a Nutshell

Both the former world no. 1s have been woefully out of form to say the least. Nehwal has dropped down to the 94th spot in the latest BWF rankings, while Srikanth fell to the 24th. Saina has only played in six tournaments this year and won only three matches. In fact, her last tournament came way back in June, the Singapore Open, where she lost to Ratchanok Intanon in the first round.

On the other hand, Srikanth has been ousted in the first round, eight times this year. The best he has done is, reaching the quarters of four tournaments in 2023, let alone winning them.

Lakshya Sen Continues to Disappoint in BWF Rankings

The 2021 World Championships bronze medal winner Lakshya Sen has been out of sorts too, and is at WR-17 in the BWF Rankings. He is expected to slip further after his first-round exit in the Japan Masters last week. Injured PV Sindhu remains at WR-11, thanks to her protected ranking. Lastly, the women’s doubles team of Treesa Jolly & Gayatri Gopichand slipped to WR-19.
