Sunil Chhetri and Co. face the formidable Qatar as they aim for second win in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Boosted by their historical performance four years ago, Indian Football Team will aim for another high result at the Kalinga Stadium on Tuesday. Ahead of the India vs Qatar game, the Blues Skipper scored a spectacular header during the practice leaving everyone in awe.

The 39-year-old has contributed to the global prominence of Indian football and has won numerous games for the Blue Tigers. India has won several titles and moved up the FIFA rankings thanks to the captain of the national team. Chhetri is third on the list of active international goal scorers, just behind two of the greatest football players of all time, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

All eyes will be on him as India enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, with the talismanic captain poised to push the envelope. After participating in 19 games in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Chhetri has scored nine goals.

It was India’s first away win of the season, and they’ll want to build on their newfound confidence. They’ve started their qualifying on a high note and will want to keep it going on Tuesday.

India will now turn their attention to their home encounter against the defending Asian champions, Qatar. Bhubaneswar will host the game on November 21, and it is likely to be a sellout, with all tickets allegedly sold out.

India has been drawn alongside Qatar, Kuwait, and Afghanistan in the World Cup 2026 qualifying round. To advance to the following round, the ‘Blue Tigers’ must finish in the top two. Sunil Chhetri and c have already started their campaign on a positive note. The Blue Tigers secured a resounding 1-0 victory over Kuwait.

India has never been to the FIFA World Cup. Since 1990, India has consistently competed in the tournament’s qualifying phase but has never advanced to the final round.
