The Indian Football Team on Thursday started their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier campaign in a blistering fashion. The Blue Tigers notched up a famous 1-0 win against Kuwait in an away encounter at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City. Mohun Bagan Super Giant forward Manvir Singh scored the only of the match in the 75th minute with a deft finish to ensure the Blue Tigers square off against Qatar with three points in the bag.

The Indian team looked in tune from the beginning of the match with Sunil Chhetri and Co. playing passes with ease inside the opposition half. Chhetri had a golden chance from inside the box off a cross from Nikhil Poojary but the India captain blew the shot just over the goal.

Kuwait created a few chances of their own as they looked to press high in the midfield. However, the Kuwait team found it difficult to go past Sandesh Jhingan and co as goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu had very little to do.

Kuwait started the second half well and started troubling the Indian defence with clever passes. India grew into the game gradually and latched on to a chance in the 75th minute.

An Indian attack started from midfield and moved to the left. Lallianzuala Chhangte ran from the left wing to catch a forward ball from Akash Mishra. Sensing the defender closing on his heels, Chhangte put in a first time low cross towards the six yard box. Manvir, who was arriving from the right, moved in front of the Kuwait defender at the right time. He placed the ball with his left feet without providing any chance for the goalkeeper.
