In a surprise move by Pakistan Cricket Board, PCB has appointed Shan Masood as the new Test skipper while senior pacer Shaheen Afridi will lead the T20I squad. However, the Pakistan board has not made any announcement regarding the 50-over format as yet. It must be noted that Babar Azam recently stepped down as the Pakistan captain in all three formats after their poor run in the World Cup being played in India.
Shan Masood has played 30 Tests for Pakistan
Speaking about Shan Masood’s number in the longest format of the game, the left-handed batter has played 30 matches so far. Masood averages 28.52 in the Test format and has scored 1597 runs so far. He also has seven fifties and four centuries to his name. The 34-year-old batter played his last Test match against Sri Lanka in July this year.
On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi has played 52 T20Is and has taken 64 wickets. The left-arm pacer has been a key performer for Pakistan in the white-ball formats and it remains to be seen how the Pakistani side performs under the new leadership.
Is there a rift between Babar & PCB?
“Babar was asked to continue as Test captain, while he has been relieved of captaincy in white-ball cricket for him to focus on one format. After consultation with his family, Babar decided to step down and PCB stands behind his decision. PCB respects his decision and continues to support him as a player,” PCB said in a statement after Babar Azam announced his decision.
