Formula 1 gets Cadillac & General Motor registration with Andretti for 2028

Andretti and General Motors are taking all the steps to showcase that they aren’t just here to fill the numbers. General Motors has registered to supply engines to Andretti since the year 2028.

Andretti has been trying to get into Formula 1 for a long time now. While the FIA has been accepting, Andretti has faced resistance from the Management and the existing teams. Andretti revealed their biggest trump card, an engine partnership with General Motors under the Cadillac Badge. Their move has just got serious because General Motors registered to be an engine manufacturer from 2028.

Andretti receive FIA Approval

A few months ago, the FIA opened a process to review potential Formula 1 teams. Andretti Cadillac was the only team that got the approval from the FIA. However, their toughest challenge began from then on.

Now, they had to use the brand value of General Motors to sway the minds of the teams and FOM. Today marks a big step towards doing just that.

General Motors Registers for 2028

Building a Formula 1 engine is not a small undertaking. Teams can pour years and millions into the venture and not even make it to the midfield. Therefore, it is a huge sign of commitment from General Motors to register as an engine manufacturer for 2028.

Currently, they plan to supply engines badged with the Cadillac name to Andretti. However, they have made it clear that their entry into Formula 1 is contingent on Andretti.

“Two Unique Entities”

On their registration for Formula 1, General Motors President Mark Reuss said, “We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit”, as reported by Motorsport.

“With our deep engineering and racing expertise, we’re confident we’ll develop a successful power unit for the series, and position Andretti Cadillac as a true works team.”

“We will run with the very best, at the highest levels, with passion and integrity that will help elevate the sport for race fans around the world.” Continuing on their Formula 1 entry, he said, “GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to race in F1. The collaboration between Andretti-Cadillac brings together two unique entities built for racing, both with long pedigrees of success in motorsport globally.”
