Jon Jones Has Oddsmakers In His Favour Irrespective Of Fight With Tom Aspinall Not Happening

Jones will make his comeback, and both he and Miocic have said that facing each other is more important to them than facing one of the more recent heavyweight contenders.

Even though Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will never square off, oddsmakers still believe that Jones will defeat the current temporary champion.

After Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich in the first round of UFC 295’s co-main event on Saturday, a hypothetical battle between the heavyweight championship holders became highly anticipated overnight. After undisputed champion Jones was forced to withdraw from a defense against former champion Stipe Miocic due to an injury, that fight was added to the schedule at the last minute.

Jon Jones Vs. Tom Aspinall Odds Still On

It would make sense for Jones to face Aspinall in a championship unification match, depending on when he can compete once more. The oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag seem to agree, as Jones is now listed as a -140 favorite in their starting odds. At +120, Aspinall is the small underdog.

With that, Jones has around a 58 percent probability of winning. A $100 bet on Jon Jones would provide a $171.43 profit. With a $100 investment and a roughly 45% probability of winning, a gamble on Aspinall would provide a $220 reward.

Insidesport

It’s uncertain when Jones will make his comeback, and both he and Miocic have said that facing each other is more important to them than facing one of the more recent heavyweight contenders.

After a three-year break, Jones—who had been the undisputed 205-pound champion for the greater part of a decade—came back to win the vacant heavyweight championship at UFC 285 this past March by defeating Ciryl Gane.

In 2023, Aspinall accomplished his own comeback, defeating Marcin Tybura this past July after overcoming a knee injury. At UFC 295, he then defeated Pavlovich to win an interim title. He has a 7-1 record in the UFC, winning all of his bouts via submission or knockout.
