New VAR operators in Premier League? PGMOL is hiring

After Premier League controversies and criticism from players and managers, PGMOL posts a job posting for VAR operators.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have issued advertising for new VAR officials. However the applicants need no experience. The Referees have been criticized this season after a series of errors quite often that have led to outrage from several clubs. PGMOL, the body responsible for refereeing games in English professional football, has come under fire multiple times with VAR errors in high-profile games. However, it appears that they are keen to sweep out the blunders with some new officials at the helm.

The job description calls for candidates who can “Proved clear communication under pressure” and are “capable of self-reflection on how they have performed.” “Identify when VAR needs to intervene,” as well as an “ability to focus and have great communication skills.”

According to The Sun, the Premier League is aiming to hire additional VAR officials. PGMOL has posted a job advertisement in order to do so. This season, VAR has come under fire following a string of questionable rulings that have enraged managers, players, and fans alike. Now an advertisement has been distributed to the game’s top officials, but no prior VAR expertise is necessary.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta called VAR “embarrassing” after his team fell 1-0 to a contentious Anthony Gordon goal. Following that, the Gunners issued a statement justifying their manager’s remarks.

Insidesport

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp asked for a review after Luis Diaz’s goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss at Tottenham was incorrectly ruled out for offside. And Wolves manager Gary O’Neill accused VAR of significant gaffes that lost his team points. PGMOL boss Howard Webb has apologised several times, including for the Diaz gaffe.

VAR has also been criticised for excessive delays. One of which lasted more than seven minutes during Chelsea’s 4-1 triumph over Tottenham on Monday. That game lasted over 112 minutes and featured two red cards and five disallowed goals.
