Over the years, cricket fans have seen several excellent grabs behind the wickets. However, this must be the greatest catch ever taken by a wicketkeeper. The incident happened in a match between KPA 123 and KCSA Calicut in the Kerala Premier League. After the catch was completed, not only players but everyone including the umpires and the fans were left in a state of shock.
With just two overs in the game, KPA 123 were dominating the match after grabbing four wickets. However, their joy doubled on the first ball of the third over. Left-arm pacer Firas Mohammed delivered an excellent delivery that swung a mile and took the outside edge.

The KPA 123’s wicketkeeper dived to his right and plucked the catch but the ball bounced out of his glove and went into the air. However, the ball ricocheted off his outstretched right hand and fell on his back. The keeper showed an excellent presence of mind and stopped the ball on his back by bending his body appropriately and locking his arms to create a cushion.
According to MCC rules, “A catch will be fair only if, in every case either the ball, at any time or any fielder in contact with the ball, is not grounded beyond the boundary before the catch is completed.” Furthermore, the law states that the “act of making a catch shall start from the time when the ball first comes into contact with a fielder’s person and shall end when a fielder obtains complete control over both the ball and his/her own movement.”
