Angelo Mathews to AJ Harris’ Players who have been ‘Timed out’ in Cricket history

Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews became the first batter in the international arena to be adjudged timed out.

Sri Lanka senior all-rounder Angelo Mathews was adjudged ‘Timed out’ during the World Cup match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. This was the first instance in the International cricket that a batter was adjudged timed out. Andrew Jordan (Eastern Province vs Transvaal)

In a match between Eastern Province and Transvaal in February 1988, Andrew Jordaan, opening for Eastern Province was unbeaten on zero at the close of play. However, thanks to rain overnight, road conditions were so difficult the next morning that Jordaan couldn’t reach the ground for the start of play. He was subsequently timed out and became the first ever batter to be dismissed in the fashion.

Hemulal Yadav (Tripura vs Orissa)

In a match domestic match, Tripura were having a bat against Orissa. The batting side lost their ninth wicket as the on-field umpires called for drinks. Hemulal Yadav was the next batter to walk into bat but he was in a conversation with his team manager on the edge of the boundary and was given out.

Vasbert Drakes (Border v Free State)

West Indies pacer Vasbert Drakes was expected to play for the Border side in 2002. However, Drakes failed to reach to East London while travelling from Sri Lanka. As a result, Drakes was adjudged timed out while being in a flight trying to reach at the venue.

AJ Harris (Nottinghamshire vs Durham)

Playing for Nottinghamshire against Durham, Harris suffered from a groin strain, which took him too long to get to the crease. In this regard, he was dismissed on appeal. Meanwhile, his batting partner Chris Read, wasn’t very pleased as the batter was left stranded on 94 runs.

Ryan Austin (Combined Campuses and Colleges vs Windward Islands)

Ryan Austin became the fifth batter in the history of cricket to be timed out. Opening the bowling against the Windward Islands, Austin took 8/64, but when his time came to bat in the second innings, he failed to make it to the crease in time and was given out.
