Amid concerns of ticket scalping (selling tickets at higher prices) for the ICC World Cup cricket match between India and South Africa at Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Police has taken action. They’ve issued a notice to Roger Binny, who is the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), requesting information about how tickets are being sold for the event.
The notice was sent to Binny on Saturday evening. It essentially asks him to provide documents and details related to ticket sales. These documents should be submitted to the officer in charge of the Maidan police station, who is investigating reports of ticket scalping. This request from the police is aimed at ensuring transparency in ticket sales and preventing any illegal activities.
”A notice was sent to the BCCI president, asking him to provide relevant documents and information regarding the sale of tickets either personally or through any competent person of his organisation to the investigating officer of Maidan PS during working hours on Tuesday,” the officer told PTI.
Why ticket scalping is issue for BCCI?
So far, Kolkata Police has arrested 19 individuals and confiscated 108 tickets from them. Additionally, they have registered seven cases related to ticket scalping. This shows that the authorities are taking this issue seriously and are actively working to curb the black market for cricket tickets.
Ticket scalping can result in fans paying exorbitant prices for tickets and can also create an unfair advantage for those who can afford to buy tickets at inflated rates.
