Brazil GP Sprint Shootout: Lando Norris takes pole ahead of both Red Bulls

Lando Norris translated his McLaren’s pace to something meaningful as he took pole for the sprint at the Brazil GP. Both Red Bulls start just behind him.

Lando Norris has had a Formula 1 season filled with should haves and could haves. Since McLaren got some pace, he has consistently run Max Verstappen and Red Bull close. But he has always fallen short. For the Brazil GP Sprint, however, he finally put it all together when it mattered. Despite a moment in the first sector, he put it on pole ahead of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

The Brazil GP Sprint Shootout was just as close as the normal qualifying. However, the session came to an abrupt end a few seconds earlier due to a crash between Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso.

The Frenchman was on a hot lap and had a moment of oversteer. This made him crash into the Spaniard who was ahead of him on track. Ocon was eliminated, along with Lance Stroll, Guanyu Zhou, and both the Williams.

SQ2

The second part of the Brazil GP Sprint Shootout proved to be just as exhilarating. However, Alonso was unable to take part due to suspension damage from that incident with Ocon.

Most of the top runners took two shots at setting their laps. However, the lower-ranked teams like Alpha Tauri, Haas, and Alfa Romeo only took one shot at it.

In the end, both Haas drivers missed out by less than a tenth of a second. Pierre Gasly, Valtteri Bottas, and Fernando Alonso joined them.

Max Verstappen was looking in ominous touch. Everyone thought he would continue his phenomenal run in Formula 1. However, Lando Norris had other ideas in the final part of the Brazil GP Sprint Shootout.

Due to the availability of tyres, all 10 drivers only had one lap to perform. Despite a big moment in sector 1, Lando Norris was able to put it on pole ahead of Max Verstappen and a rejuvenated Sergio Perez. Both the Mercedes completed the top 5.
