He suffered the injury in Brazil’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss to Uruguay last month in Montevideo. The Al Hilal attacker is expected to be out of action for a considerable amount of time.

Neymar went down hard on his left knee as he made a run during Brazil’s defeat at the Centenario stadium in the 44th minute. The forward was surrounded by players from both sides as he clutched at his left knee. Brazil’s all-time leading scorer was on crutches as he left Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

Neymar Surgery successful: Doctor

“We were very satisfied with the results,” Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said in a brief statement after surgery. “He had a reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and the two meniscus injuries have been repaired.

“It was a success. He will remain in hospital for another 24 or 48 hours depending on his clinical progress,” Lasmar added.

Lasmar mentioned that the upcoming phase involves rehabilitation and physiotherapy. But he did not specify a return date for the Al Hilal striker.

According to experts, Neymar’s full recovery could take up to eight months. It means that he will miss the upcoming Copa America in the United States in June and July.

Insidesport

In August, Neymar moved to Saudi Arabia for an eye-watering $96 million, but his time there was marked by a string of muscular injuries that restricted him to just five appearances.

Indian football fans were jubilant when Neymar’s Al Hilal was drawn in the same group as Mumbai City FC in the Asian Champions League. The home match of MCFC against Al Hilal saw the demand for tickets sore. However, the injury means Neymar will not travel with the Al Hilal team that would take on Mumbai City FC in India.
