WATCH: Mohammed Shami scripts history with five-fer in IND vs SL World Cup clash

Apart from becoming India's most successful bowler, Shami also entered the top 10 of the most wicket takers in ODI World Cups.

It was another Shami show tonight at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The veteran pacer picked up his third five-wicket haul in the Cricket World Cup as India thrashed Sri Lanka by 302 runs and qualified for the semi-final.

It was a record-breaking spell for the 33-year-old who became India’s most successful bowler for India in the World Cup.

Shami overtook Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath at the top with 45 wickets in World Cups. He reached the milestone in just 14 innings.

Record breaking night for Shami

With his third 5-fer in the World Cup, Shami levelled with Starc in having the most five-wicket hauls in ODI World Cups.

With 45 wickets in just 14 matches, Shami now will be eyeing Starc’s record of fastest to 50 World Cup wickets which the Australian pacer reached in 19 matches.

Talking about Shami’s performance, the pacer was on the money from the very first ball of his spell when he got rid of Charith Asalanka in the 10th over. Shami then ran through Dushan Hemantha and Dushmantha Chameera as Sri Lanka and removed Kasun Rajitha to become India’s leading wicket-taker at the ODI World Cup.
