No Fireworks! Jay Shah, BCCI become ‘environment sensitive’ ahead of Diwali

As expected, after this announcement by Jay Shah, fans blasted BCCI and its secretary on social media.

There will be no fireworks display at the Wankhede Stadium on November 2. To negate the pollution concerns, during or after Cricket World Cup 2023 India vs Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) match in Mumbai, there will be no explosions in the sky. The same was confirmed by the BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday.

BCCI is sensitive to environmental concerns. And Jay Shah took up the matter formally with the ICC and there it was decided that there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai, which can add to the pollution level.

“BCCI is sensitive to environmental concerns. I took up the matter formally with the ICC and there won’t be any fireworks display in Mumbai, which can add to the pollution level. The Board is committed to combating environmental issues and will always place the interest of our fans and stakeholders at the forefront”: Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI.

Fans angry with Jay Shah, BCCI

As expected, after this announcement by Jay Shah, fans blasted BCCI and its secretary on social media. Notably as popular Hindu festival is around the corner, people tied the links of this decision to that.

“Can u also take up such environmental concerns with western nations for New Year Eve & 4th July celebrations or is it only limited to making India a dull place & forcing Indians to flock abroad to enjoy fireworks?” said one X user.

While someone else commented: “Tum inki baaton me mat aana bhaiyon Diwali me gyaan dene k liye abhi se tayyari ho rahi hai. (Don’t fall for their words, brothers. For giving unsolicited recommendations on Diwali they are preparing from now on.”

India will try to repeat the 2023 Asia Cup final match when they play Sri Lanka in Mumbai on Thursday. The Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, will be fired up to take on the Lankans as a victory at Wankhede Stadium will formally confirm their spot in the semi-finals.
