Police in Kolkata have arrested a man for allegedly selling tickets of the upcoming IND vs SA Cricket World Cup match to people in black, an official said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Ankit Agarwal, had 20 tickets in his possession. The accused was selling tickets worth ₹2,500 for ₹11,000 for the India vs South Africa match which will be played at the Eden Gardens on November 5.
Notably, this is not the first time the illegal activity regarding the World Cup tickets sale have surfaced.
Earlier, a man in Ahmedabad was arrested for duping a cricket fan of ₹2.68 lakh on the promise of delivering several tickets for IND vs PAK clash on October 14.
The accused, named Jay Shah, posed as an agent of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) and assured the victim of the 41 tickets for the India vs Pakistan match.
However, after paying more than 1.5 lakhs on match tickets, the complainant did not get any ticket.
Talking about the Team India’s campaign, the Men in Blue are going through a dream run in the tournament, winning all six matches they have played so far.
The Rohit and Co. side are currently at the top of the table with semi-final berth almost sealed. Team India will next face Sri Lanka on November 2 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
