WATCH: After Shreyas Iyer falls to pull shot twice, his old tutorial video resurfaces online

Shreyas Iyer has managed to score only 134 runs in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, and his pull shot has been a major shortcoming.

Talented India batsman Shreyas Iyer might be one of the best in the team when it comes to playing spinners, but his prowess comes down significantly when facing short deliveries by fast bowlers. At the World Cup 2023 as well, Iyer has fallen prey to short-pitch bowling, while attempting to play the pull shot, an effective way of tackling such kind of bowling.

Shreyas Iyer and Pull Shot Failure at World Cup

In the India vs England match, Iyer struggled to get going and was out for four. He faced 16 deliveries, and the major chunk of that was short-pitched bowling. He fell to Chris Woakes while attempting a pull.

Insidesport

Similar was the case in the India vs New Zealand match as well, where he was caught in the deep by Devon Conway while attempting a pull. Trent Boult bowled him a bouncer, and the batsman took his eyes off the ball and skied it, only to be caught at the boundary for 33.

Old Pull Tutorial Video Resurfaces

Amidst his struggle with the shot, his old tutorial video on ‘how to play pull shot’ has resurfaced on the internet. This might just be in stark contrast to what he has been actually doing on the field. The video describes in detail, the eye position, shoulder position, stance, and the leg movement.

Might be Axed from Playing XI

Although Shreyas has been average with his performances, such is the level of competition in Team India, that Ishan Kishan might be preferred over him in the next match against Sri Lanka on November 2. There are reports which suggest that KL Rahul could be promoted to No.4 in the batting order, while Kishan could be used at No. 5.
