Lionel Messi rightfully won the award courtesy of his heroics with Argentina in the 2022 World Cup. Messi helped Argentina lift the World Cup after a gap of 86 years. The former Barcelona forward scored seven goals in the World Cup campaign including a brace in the final against France. Messi was awarded the Golden Ball at the 2022 World Cup for being the best player of the tournament.
