The mother of Luis Diaz, a footballer for Liverpool and Colombia, was rescued on Saturday from kidnapping in the country’s north, according to Colombian President Gustavo Petro, but his father is still missing.
A team of detectives was gathered, according to the Colombian attorney general’s office, to look for the pair in Barrancas, a municipality in the country’s northern La Guajira region.
Director William Rene Salamanca was consulted by Cilenis Marulanda, Luis Diaz’s mother, who was rescued, according to the National Police. Salamanca stated in a video that he is searching for Diaz‘s father with every agent.
The 26-year-old Luis Diaz parents were allegedly abducted while driving to their residence. Authorities reported that after stopping them, gunmen on motorcycles took off with their vehicles.
The soccer association of Colombia issued a statement in which it condemned the kidnapping and pleaded with the authorities to free the father.
