Marcus Rashford shares motivating words for teammates ahead of Manchester Derby

Manchester United clash with their local rivals Manchester City in their 191st Manchester derby this weekend.

Marcus Rashford is ready to fight to get back to the top of the Premier League table. He has some motivational words for his teammates for the coming Man United vs Man City match. Rashford believes this Manchester derby can be their way to get back the club and his form. Rashford has not found his rhythm back so far into this season. It’s only been the first time this season that Man United are on a 3-game winning streak. Hence, his motivating words could be just what the Red Devils need.

During the press conference prior to the Manchester derby, Marcus Rashford said some motivational words. The ace player wanted to remind his teammates that they were in a tough situation last season before they faced Liverpool at home. Yet they prevailed and turned it around from there. He thinks they can do it again against Manchester City this weekend. He said, “It’s just the way football is sometimes. I don’t think we’ve been playing at our best but we’ve just won three games.”

He added, “I remember last season before we played Liverpool at home early in the season, we weren’t at our best before then but we responded in a big game. We’ll be looking for that type of performance again. If we can get that and get the win, then we’ll be happy. I can see the similarities. We have the courage and the willingness to fight in every game we play, and we need to pick up the points. We need to move up the Premier League table, there’s no time to wait around.”

Manchester United are currently sitting in 8th position in the Premier League table. They have registered 5 wins and 4 defeats. For the first time this season, they have a 3-game winning streak. They registered 2 consecutive Premier League wins and a Champions League win. It was their first Champions League win of the season. They will look to build on this to win against Man City. The Cityzens lost 2 games in the Premier League so far against Wolves and Arsenal.

They also lost against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup third round. Hence, Man City are not in their invincible form and the Red Devils can get a win. However, it will not come easy against the reigning champions. Rashford himself has not been able to impress so far into the season. He was the star forward last season for Manchester United with 30 goals throughout all competitions. He helped the Red Devils end their 6-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup.

He also helped them finish the season in 3rd place in the league table. He will look to get back in form in this match. When talking about what they have to do to win such an important match, Rashford said, “You have to be confident. You have to trust your own abilities. But you also have to pay them respect. We have to be ready for when the little moments arrive in games such as this. We need to take those moments.”
