Amid the furor over the decision over Rassie van der Dussen’s dismissal in SA vs PAK, the ICC has finally broken its silence. The incident occurred during the World Cup 2023 game in Chennai on Friday where the Proteas batter was given out by the on-field umpire following which the decision was reviewed.
It was in the 19th over of the game where van der Dussen was rapped on his pads while facing a delivery off Usama Mir. As the batter reviewed the umpire’s decision, unusually, two ball tracking screens were shown. The first showed the ball missing the leg stump while the second displayed otherwise. In both cases, the common factor was the ball pitching in-line and the decision being ‘umpire’s call’.
This incident sparked a heated debate about the technology between fans on social media. A day after the incident, ICC has now issued a clarification on the same.

Acknowledging the outrage from fans, ICC agreed that it has ‘erroneously’ displayed the first ball-tracking technology. Further, the body said that the second ball-tracking technology which was displayed was the correct one following which the right decision was made.
