No Rahul Dravid in IND vs AUS T20 series, SKY likely to lead, Laxman to coach

With Rahul Dravid and his support team getting a break after Cricket World Cup, VVS Laxman will fill in for the role during India vs Australia T20 series while Suryakumar Yadav is likely to lead India.

Cricket World Cup may get over on Nov 19 but cricket isn’t over yet. India Cricket Team will take on Australia in a five-match T20 series starting Nov 23, four days after the final. But after a tiring campaign, India head coach Rahul Dravid will get a break along with the entire squad. Suryakumar Yadav will lead India with VVS Laxman filling in for Dravid in the IND vs AUS T20 series (India vs Australia).

“VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup,” a PTI quoted a BCCI source.

As the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), VVS Laxman has taken charge of the team in Dravid’s absence. And it will be a repeat of the same. Suryakumar Yadav, who was the deputy under Hardik Pandya, will get a chance to showcase his captaincy skills with T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

IND vs AUS T20: Focus on youngsters

With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya on break, India Cricket Team will comprise of the Asian Games gold medallist squad. Sanju Samson will also come in.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Umran Malik apart from Rinku Singh will feature in the IND vs AUS T20 series.

Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will also keep a tab on the players in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“There is time. Some of the guys will get a break after the World Cup. And yes, it will be an opportunity for someone like Ruturaj, Yashasvi, or Sanju to do well and cement their place. It’s up to the selectors who they want to see in that team,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
