The Board of Control for Cricket in India has not been very proactive in managing the Women’s Premier League (WPL), leaving the franchise owners in a state of uncertainty. According to Cricbuzz, the WPL 2024 auction is expected to take place on December 9, but the BCCI is yet to communicate the venue and dates for the event to the owners.
Notably, the franchises have already released their retained lists and are waiting to finalise their squads in auction for the upcoming season.

According to sources, the BCCI is considering to schedule the WPL 2024 in February next year, as the Indian women’s team has international commitments until mid-January.
However, the franchises are still not communicated on whether the tournament will be held in a single city, or if it will be played across different venues this time around.
The WPL 2024 will be the second edition of the league, which started in 2023. The league was a big success in its inaugural edition, attracting top players from around the world. The WPL has also helped in developing and promoting women’s cricket in India. The national team reaped rewards from the league as the women’s team won their first gold medal in Asian Games in September.
