Anwar Ali suffers ankle injury, woes continue for Mohun Bagan

Mohun Bagan Super Giant's difficulties persist as the ISL 2023-24 campaign continues as Anwar Ali gets an ankle injury

Anwar Ali suffered an injury when Mohun Bagan drew 2-2 with Basundhara Kings. As a result, his availability for the World Cup Qualifiers is in doubt. Due to a problem, the young center-back did not participate in India’s October international break. It may have come back to haunt him.

Ali suffered an ankle injury in extra time and was forced to leave the game in the final stages. He had put forth a lot of effort during the game. However, an active Bashundhara side pushed him to his limits. Towards the conclusion, he collided with an opposing player, leaving him injured and forced to leave the game.

Ali was spotted with bandages wrapped around his right ankle after the game. He was apparently not moving easily, and Ferrando did not disclose the degree of his ailment. This might be a severe setback for the Mariners if Ali is forced to miss significant time owing to this injury.

The degree of Anwar Ali’s injury is yet unknown. The injury is troubling given India’s next World Cup qualifiers against Kuwait and Qatar on November 16 and 21, respectively. The presence of Anwar Ali is critical for the Indian national team’s defence. His injury calls into question his availability for this crucial game.

Insidesport

The India international has been one of Mohun Bagan’s top summer additions. Ali has a track record of consistently delivering outstanding achievements. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Indian Super League (ISL), the Durand Cup, or the AFC Cup.

There has been no confirmation of the severity of Ali’s injuries. Mohun Bagan’s next ISL encounter comes on November 1st, when they travel to Jamshedpur FC. Their first Kolkata derby, scheduled for 28th October, has been rescheduled. As a consequence, Ali still has some time to heal for the next game, but only if the medical team determines that his injury is not significant.
