Eye on return in IND vs AUS T20 series, Sanju Samson dominates in SMAT 2023

With senior players set to be rested from IND vs AUS T20 series post World Cup, Sanju Samson is quietly preparing to relaunch his comeback bid.

Snubbed from the Cricket World Cup in favour of an ODI non-performer, Sanju Samson has relaunched a bid to return to India Cricket Team. The end. The story would have ended there. But the fighter Sanju Samson has been quietly working on sharpening his skills with IND vs AUS T20 series starting immediately after WC. With Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli all set to be rested, Samson is in line for a return. And performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy could count.

In the two games that he played against Chandigarh and Odisha, scoring 52 (off 32) and 55 (off 31).

He has been playing at No 4 for Kerala and that is a position which he might get if he is picked for India in the senior players’ absence.

With an eye on becoming India’s finisher in T20s, Samson is playing at a greater strike rate. He was in such a destructive mood in the match against Odisha on Wednesday. He hammered four 6s and four 4s during his 31-ball 55-run knock.

Sanju Samson in IND vs AUS T20?

With a long and arduous Cricket World Cup coming to an end, India will play a five-match T20 series starting Nov 23.

As per information available with InsideSport, all senior players will be rested following the Cricket World Cup campaign. Having lost his place in the ODI team for the WC, Sanju Samson will have to capitalise on every opportunity with T20 World Cup 2024 starting in June.

Sanju Samson has been in and out of the T20 team as well. But with all seniors absent, he has a chance to make a mark. The five-match series and the IPL 2024 will be crucial for World Cup team selection.

Insidesport

With the tag of Mr Inconsistent already on him, Sanju Samson has limited opportunities to do well.

“Ther is time. Some of the guys will get a break after World Cup. And yes, it will be an opportunity for someone like Ruturaj or Yashasvi or Sanju to do well and cement their place. It’s up to the selectors who they want to see in that team,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

However, one thing is for certain, selectors are keeping a tab on Sanju Samson. He is part of the T20 World Cup probables that chief selector Ajit Agarkar worked on.

With just 6 months left for another World Cup, all eyes will be on the Rajasthan Royals captain. There have already been a lot of injustice to him. But good performances in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy won’t go unnoticed.
