Sundar Gurjar sets new world record as India sweep medals in Men’s F46 Javelin

After Sumit Antil set a new World record in Men's F64 Javelin, India's Sundar Singh Gurjar created a new world record in F46 Javelin

Records galore at the Asian Para Games 2023. After Sumit Antil set a new World record in Men’s Javelin throw earlier in the day, India’s Sundar Singh Gurjar also created a new world record in the Men’s F46 Javelin on Wednesday, 25th October. The Tokyo Paralympic bronze medallist got his names into the history books with a 68.60m throw in the final.

With this, the 27-year old broke the earlier World record of 67.79m set by Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Priyantha. Apart from Gujar Singh’s feat, it was also triple delight for India as it was a podium sweep for the nation. Rinku and Ajeet Singh bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively.

How did Sundar Gurjar Singh create World record?

Sundar Gurjar Singh started off with a 63.05m throw in his first attempt. Despite a foul in his second attempt, he continued to maintain his lead at the top.

In his third throw he went even better by registering 66.21m. While he continued to stay in the lead, his compatriot Rinku gave him a scare by recording a 67.08m throw in his final attempt.

Pushed down to the second spot ahead of his final throw, Gurjar Singh had only a solitary attempt to go past a 67.08m. Under pressure, he delivered with a massive 68.6m to get his hands on the gold medal as well as the World record in style.

Meanwhile Rinku and Ajeet Singh helped India sweep the podium in the event. Rinku won the silver medal with a 67.08m throw. Ajeet Singh meanwhile managed to win the silver medal with a 63.52m throw.

Earlier in the day Sumit Antil broke his own World record in the Men’s Javelin F64 event. He shattered his earlier mark of 70.83m by registering a massive 73.29m throw.
