WATCH: Sumit Antil betters WORLD RECORD mark by almost 3m to win gold at Asian Para Games

Sumit Antil brought India's 11th gold medal at the ongoing Asian Para Games.

Star India javelin thrower Sumit Antil rewrote the history books on Wednesday, as he not only won the gold medal at the Asian para games in the men’s F64 category but also bettered his own World Record. He achieved a magnificent distance of 73.29m, surpassing his previous best of 70.83m, which he set earlier this year, at the World Athletics Championships in Paris.

India returned with another medal in the category, as Pushpendra also pocketed a bronze medal. He achieved a best distance of 62.06m. Sri Lanka’s Kodithuwakku Arachchige Samitha D took home the silver medal with a best throw of 64.09m. Another Indian in the fray, Sandeep was outside the medals and finished fourth.

What’s interesting is that apart from these four throwers, none of them managed to attain a distance of even 50m.

Sumit Antil’s Remarkable Journey of World Records

Sumit has been the world record holder in the category for a few years now and has been bettering his marks almost every year. He had created a world record during the Paralympics 2020, where he won a gold medal, with a throw of 68.55m. Then he entered the 70m territory at the National Championships last year, where he threw a distance of 70.17m.
