Hitman goes Boom! Rohit Sharma slams 50 ODI sixes in calendar year to achieve major feat

Rohit Sharma continues to unleash carnage, achieves major feat during IND vs NZ World Cup tie.

Leading the Indian Cricket Team from the front is the skipper Rohit Sharma. In the previous match of the Cricket World Cup, Rohit Sharma achieved a rare feat of becoming the first Indian to hit 300 ODI sixes and now he has become the first Indian to slam 50 ODI sixes in a calendar year. In the India vs New Zealand clash, prior to reaching his half-century, Rohit Sharma had already hit 4 gigantic sixes.

Dubbed the Hit-Man for his ferocious hitting abilities, Rohit Sharma is the only 3rd batter in the history of the game to slam 50 ODI sixes in the calendar year. Only Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers stand ahead of the Indian skipper.

Batters with 50 ODI sixes in a calendar year

58 – AB de Villiers (2015)
56 – Chris Gayle (2019)
50 – Rohit Sharma (2023)

The Proteas great AB de Villiers tops the charts after having slammed 58 sixes back in 2015 and is closely followed by the West Indian giant Chris Gayle who slammed 56 sixes back in 2019. But for Rohit Sharma, the stage is set. The Indian skipper and opening batter regained his form ahead of the World Cup and has been attacking the opponent bowlers with his thunderous might.

Moreover, with plenty of World Cup matches to go, Rohit Sharma can easily surpass both Gayle and ABD in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

For the second match in a row, Rohit Sharma missed out on reaching his half-century. Rohit was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson on 46. A widish slow delivery and Rohit went for a late cutback. The ball took a wicked inside edge to knock the bails, thereby ending a brilliant innings from the Indian talisman.
