Sydney 2023: How Have the Favorites Performed So Far?

Some of the teams expected to do well, pre-tournament, were Team Vitality, FaZe Clan, G2 Sports, ENCE and Cloud9. In this segment, we consider how well these teams have actually done.

Team Vitality

Much was expected of Team Vitality at the start of the tournament. They were pre-tournament favourites to win the tournament according to odds on BC.Game. However, their performance has been disappointing.
Drawn in group A, Vitality csgo lost 16-14 to Betboom in the Upper Bracket Quarter-finals.
In the Lower Bracket Quarter-finals, Team Vitality lost 2-1 to FaZe Clan and crashed out of the tournament.

Faze Clan

Drawn in Group A, FaZe Clan lost to GamerLegion in the Upper Bracket quarter-finals. Thereafter, they did much better in the Lower Bracket.
They beat Team Vitality 2-1 in the Lower Bracket Quarter-finals.
FaZe Clan csgo went on to beat Natus Vincere 2-1 in the Lower Bracket semi-finals to qualify for the Lower Bracket final.
Their Lower Bracket final is currently underway against GamerLegion. The teams are tied 1-1, with the third map yet to take place.

G2 Sports

Drawn in Group B, G2 Sports began well by beating Greyhound 13-11 in the Upper Bracket quarter-finals.

They went on to beat Complexity 2-0 in the semifinals to qualify for the final against ENCE.

ENCE

ENCE beat Lynn Vision 13-6 in the Group B Upper Bracket Quarter-finals.

They then vanquished Fnatic 2-1 in the semi finals to qualify for the finals against G2 Esports.

Cloud9

Cloud9, drawn in Group B, lost 13-10 in the Upper Bracket quarter-finals to Fnatic. They did better in the Lower Bracket quarter-finals beating Lynn Vision 2-0.

However, the Cloud9 csgo journey came to an end in the semi-final, where they lost 2-1 to Complexity.

Who Is Current Favourite to Win IEM Sydney 2023?

G2 Sports were not pre-tournament favourites. Team Vitality quoted at 3.75 were ahead on the list of favourites. In fact, G2 Sports were joint-second along with ENCE with both teams attracting odds of 4.0.

However, G2 Sports have stayed the course, while Vitality have crashed out. ENCE have not done as well as G2 Sports, though they are still in the reckoning.
