Baby GOAT, Shubman Gill registered his maiden ODI World Cup fifty on his second appearance for the Men in Blue. Shubman Gill missed India’s first 2 matches after being sick with dengue. He made his World Cup debut against Pakistan and managed 16 runs. But the youngster roared back to form with a gritty fifty in the IND vs BAN World Cup clash in Pune. Gill hit 2 birds with 1 stone – he impressed King Kohli and rumoured girlfriend Sara Tendulkar with his fine fifty.
Gill seemed to make a relaxed start to the game as Rohit Sharma kept hitting the ball out of the park. Shubman Gill opened his account with a wonderful flick drive. After taking a rather cautious approach early on, he too picked pace and switched gears.

The ever-confident Gill continued to score runs in a flurry. He slammed 5 fours and 2 huge sixes to reach his maiden Fifty in the ODI World Cup. It took Gill just 52 balls to reach his half-century.
After the explosive Rohit Sharma departed for a fiery 48-run knock, Gill stitched a powerful 44-run partnership with Virat Kohli to set the pace of the game for the Men in Blue.
But Gill was dispatched by Mehidy Hasan Miraz soon after he reached his fifty. In an attempt to play a big shot for a huge six, Mahmudullah took a wonderful catch near the boundary to halt Gill’s progress.

“I don’t like to talk about other teams because I am not watching them very closely. I am definitely sure about the Indian team, without any doubt. Rohit is very very important. I mean, we don’t have to talk about Virat Kohli, what a cricketer he is! But, Shubman Gill is coming to an age where we can call him a new star who can make an impact in the Indian Team for this World Cup and in the coming years.” said Kapil Dev on Shubman Gill.
