All eyes on Shakib Al Hasan! Will Bangladesh skipper play in IND vs BAN World Cup clash?

Is Shakib Al Hasan fit to play in IND vs BAN World Cup clash after Bangladeshi skipper got injured vs NZ?

Ahead of the India vs Pakistan World Cup 2023 clash, Bangladesh faces a massive injury crisis. All eyes will be on skipper Shakib Al Hasan who suffered an injury in the previous game. Shakib was taken to the hospital for scans after bowling his quota of 10 overs in the previous game. It is understood that the dependable all-rounder injured his left quad during the game.

Though Shakib is recovering from his injury, all eyes will be on the star player during Bangladesh’s practice session on 17th October. The Bengal Tigers will lock horns with the Men in Blue on 19th October in Pune.

Shakib’s injury is crucial for the Bangladesh Cricket Team. The player injured his left quad while taking a run. He continued playing the match against New Zealand and went on to complete his bowling stint of 10 overs. He was taken to a hospital in Chennai for scans where it was revealed that he was not in any pain.

“Shakib is getting better. He is pain-free. But we will know the full scenario when he hits the nets tomorrow. He will also do running between the wickets. We are hopeful that he can play against India. He worked in a swimming session, and some upper-half work in the gym today. There will be a scan tomorrow which will give us a clearer picture of his situation,” said Team Director Khaled Mahmud.

Despite the player being keen to play against India, Shakib’s inclusion in the team is not easy. But it is understood that he will be included in the team only if he is 100% fit and gets clearance from the doctors and physios.

The Bengal Tigers will not take the risk of aggravating the injury which in turn can lead Shakib to miss multiple matches in the tournament.

“Usually these injuries produce a lot of pain. It is tough to walk around even. Shakib is quite well. It is giving us hope. Shakib wants to play, so if the situation is that he is 85-90% fit, like he was in the last game after getting injured, we are hopeful too. But it depends on his 100% fitness,” added Mahmud.

“We don’t want him to miss the rest of the tournament after playing one more game. There are six matches remaining. It is the doctor and physio’s call. We don’t want to trouble him in the long term. If he gets clearance from the physio, he will play,” he concluded.
