The Belgium vs Sweden game in the 2024 Euro Qualifiers at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels has been suspended at half-time after two Swedish fans were killed outside the stadium by unknown assailants.

Football fans have been told to stay in Belgium’s national stadium after the incident, believed linked to terrorism.

There has been no official confirmation yet about the match’s status. However, the stadium announcement said, “the players decided they do not want to continue the game, because of what happened earlier today in Brussels”.

Police have not yet made any arrests yet but the area has been cordoned off. A police spokesman said two people were killed in the shooting but declined to provide more details.

Belgium prime minister Alexander De Croo expressed his condolence at the incident.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: “I have just offered my sincere condolences to the Swedish prime minister following tonight’s harrowing attack on Swedish citizens in Brussels.

“Our thoughts are with the families and friends who lost their loved ones. As close partners, the fight against terrorism is a joint one.”

Coming back to the Belgium vs Sweden match, the game was tied 1-1 at half-time. There has been no official word yet if the game is going to be rescheduled or will begin from the point it stopped.
