Israel-Hamas conflict has another casualty but in sports, Find out here

The Tel Aviv Open was supposed to take place in November, where Rohan Bopanna had won the doubles title last year.

With a full-blown war between Israel and Hamas going on, the Tel Aviv Open tennis tournament has been canceled, which was supposed to be held next month. The decision was made by the ATP men’s tour on Sunday, keeping in mind the safety, and security of fans and players. “The violence and acts of terror witnessed in Israel are beyond comprehension,” stated ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi.

He further criticised the ongoing situation and hoped for peace in the entire region. “We strongly condemn any form of terrorism and mourn the loss of innocent lives across this conflict. We hope and pray for peace in the region.”

Rohan Bopanna Connection at Tel Aviv Open

The Israel-Hamas war has led to the cancellation of the Tel Aviv Open.

As far as last year’s tournament is concerned, the world no. 1 Novak Djokovic beat Marin Cilic in straight sets to claim the title. Interestingly, India’s Rohan Bopanna had won the men’s doubles title along with Matwe Middelkoop, beating Santiago Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. The ATP 250 event is primarily a singles event, and the doubles competition was not held between 2000 and 2021.
