IPL 2023 Purple Cap winner not ‘good enough’ for ODI World Cup, Mohammed Shami out of IND vs PAK

Mohammad Shami was not part of the IND vs PAK World Cup match in Ahmedabad despite his good record at the venue.

Pacer Mohammed Shami is not part of the IND vs PAK World Cup clash in Ahmedabad. To note, the right-arm pacer was also not part of the first Indian matches against Australia and Afghanistan as well. To note, Shami had a decent time at the Narendra Modi Stadium as he scalped 17 wickets during IPL in Ahmedabad.

Mohammed Shami was purple cap holder in IPL

Playing for the defending champs, Gujarat Titans, the right-arm pacer was excellent with the new ball especially in Ahmedabad. Shami also bowled well during the recently concluded Asia Cup. However, the Indian camp has decided to persist with the pace attack of Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya.

Speaking about Shami’s numbers in the 50-over format, he has played 94 ODIs and scalped 171 wickets at an average of 25. His economy rate is 5.58 which is quite excellent considering he bowls at the field restrictions and in death overs too. Despite such good numbers in ODI cricket, Shami has still failed to seal his spot in the Indian playing XI.

Insidesport

Earlier, the home side won the toss in IND vs PAK clash and opted to have a field first at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Men in Blue made one change to their playing XI with Shubman Gill making a comeback and Ishan Kishan sitting out. The Men in Green decided to go with the same XI fielded against Sri Lanka. It must be noted that both sides have won their first two matches in the competition and they will be looking to make it three in a row at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.
