Indian batter Shubman Gill hit nets in Ahmedabad ahead of the IND vs PAK World Cup match on Saturday. To note, Gill might have a chance to surpass Babar Azam to take the number one spot in ODI rankings for the batters. It must be also noted that Shubman was hospitalized decently as he was recovering from dengue.
At present, Babar is at the top of the ODI batting rankings with 835 points. On the other hand, Gill has 830 points and he is at the second spot right now. It might be a long shot but Gill still has a chance to dethrone Babar and take the top spot in the upcoming IND vs PAK World Cup match in Ahmedabad.
“He’s (Gill) recovering well. Yes, he was hospitalised, but it was more though as a precaution. He’s back in the hotel in Chennai and is recovering well. So, he’s being monitored by the medical team. We are hoping that he will recover soon and would be looking good,” India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour had said before the Afghanistan game.
As mentioned above, Gill reached Ahmedabad and also hit the nets on Thursday. The right-handed batter did not feature against Australia and Afghanistan in India’s previous matches but might play against Pakistan.
Babar Azam has failed in two World Cup outings
On the other hand, Babar Azam has not been in his best in the World Cup. The Pakistani skipper failed to get going against the Netherlands in their WC opener. In the next match against Sri Lanka, Babar was strangled down the wicket as pacer Dilshan Madhushanka grabbed his wicket.
