Watch: Shreyas Iyer smash 101 m hit in IND vs AFG, Biggest Six in World Cup so far

Shreyas Iyer took on Mujeeb ur Rahman as he dumped him over the long-on boundary for a huge maximum over the stands.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer on October 11 (Wednesday) registered the highest maximum in terms of the distance achieved in World Cup. The IND vs AFG match was conducted at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi as the home side completed a thumping win over the Afghani side. Skipper Rohit Sharma registered a ton in the match as he broke several records during his marathon knock.

Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 25

Coming out to bat after the fall of Rohit, Iyer looked very calm on the wicket as he milked singles and doubles. However, the right-handed batter got one right in the arc as he dispatched it over the long-on boundary. His innings included one six and one four. It must be noted that Iyer failed to get going in the World Cup opener against the Aussies. However, he looked in good touch in Delhi and will want to continue that form against the arch-rivals Pakistan on October 14 (Saturday).

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma was adjudged player of the match for his knock of 131 runs. “Was a good win for us, very important to get that momentum at the start of the tournament. It is about absorbing pressure and taking the right decision on the field. There will be a spell from the opposition where you will have to absorb pressure. Leading up to the tournament we had played such games. You have got players with different skill sets in our team,” Rohit said after the match.

They bring different attributes of the game to the team and it puts you in good positions as a team when you have that. We have got guys who can play fearless cricket with bat and guys who can absorb like the last game. (Asked about playing Pakistan and the talk around it) For us it’s crucial that we don’t worry about external factors and just look at things we can control,” Rohit added.
