Shubman Gill, who remained in Chennai to continue his therapy and healing, has reached Ahmedabad today. The India opener is keeping his hopes alive for blockbuster India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 clash. Gill is recovering from dengue and will link up with Team India on Thursday.
“Gill will take a commercial flight from Chennai to Ahmedabad today. Under the supervision of the BCCI medical team, he will continue to heal and rest there,” a person familiar with the situation told News18.
The 24-year-old is healing from dengue and showing good signs of returning to action shortly. The management of the Indian team, which is currently in Delhi for the ODI World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan, continues to monitor the young player.
Gill was hospitalized in Chennai when his platelets dropped below 1,00,000 per microliter on October 10, but he was soon released and continued receiving care in the hotel. During the pre-game press conference in Delhi on October 10, India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour also confirmed Shubman Gill hospitalization.
Will Shubman Gill play in IND vs PAK WC match?
The India batting coach recently also confirmed that “Shubman Gill should be back in the mix pretty soon.”
Rathour’s upbeat remarks and the fact that Shubman Gill is travelling to Ahmedabad are finally some good news for the Indian cricket team, but the opener will have a difficult time getting match-ready.
The vital signs are improving for young opener, but it will be challenging to estimate when he will be able to return at this point.
Shubman Gill currently is in a battle against time to be match-ready for the high-stakes encounter against Pakistan after previously missing two 2023 World Cup games against Australia and Afghanistan.
At this point, it seems unlikely that the player would make it back in time for the Pakistan encounter, thus the Indian team management will continue to wait.
