Senior spinner Ravi Ashwin was impressive with the ball against Australia in team India’s opening World Cup match in Chennai. It must be noted that Ashwin finished with figures 10-34-1 as the home side cruised to a 7-wicket victory over Australia in their opening match of the showpiece event. Meanwhile, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh praised Ashwin for his bowling effort in Chennai.
Meanwhile, Ashwin had a tense moment during the second half of the match. After bamboozling Australia for just 199 runs, the Indian team had a shaky start with the bat as skipper Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer got out in Quick succession. Virat also got a reprieve earlier in his innings as Mitchell Marsh dropped a sitter at the square-leg region. That turned out to be the turning point of the match as Kohli punished Australia with a match-winning knock alongside KL Rahul.
Stayed in same place for entire game: Ashwin on tense IND vs AUS clash
“When I saw Virat Kohli’s catch in the air, I ran outside the dressing room and was thinking ‘wake me up when it’s over’. I went back to the dressing room and the crowd erupted. I stayed in the same place for the entire game. My legs are actually in pain now”, Ashwin said to the tournament broadcasters after the match.
Meanwhile, team India will take on Afghanistan in their second match of the World Cup. The match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 11 (Wednesday). The Men in Blue will look to make it 2 in 2 wins before they face arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14 (Saturday).
