‘Need better thinking from Shreyas Iyer’… Yuvraj Singh lashes out on star batter

Shreyas Iyer missed out on scoring runs on his World Cup debut game against Australia. Yuvraj Singh was unhappy with his shot selection

Walking in at the fall of two wickets, Shreyas Iyer needed to absorb the pressure and mix caution with aggression. However, the 28-year-old played a rash shot and got out for a duck, leaving India 5-3 in two overs. Iyer, who was playing his debut match in the World Cup, put immense on the rest of the batters to get India over the line against Australia in their first WC match. Yuvraj Singh was unimpressed by the way Iyer got out and took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

“No 4 batsman has to absorb the pressure !! Need better thinking from @ShreyasIyer15 when the team is trying to rebuild their innings! Still don’t understand why  @klrahul is not batting at no 4 ! After scoring a 100 against Pakistan! Dropping  @imVkohli might cost Australia big time, don’t drop the king cause he can take the game away. Game on !!”

While Yuvraj was unhappy with Shreays’s execution of the shot, the southpaw also failed to understand the logic of not sending KL Rahul at number four rather than number five. In Iyer’s absence, Rahul scored a century against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and batted aggressively. However, since Iyer has a good record at number 4 in ODIs, India have persisted with him.
