Indian star cricketer KL Rahul scored a brilliant unbeaten 97 as India start their World Cup campaign with a win against Australia at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. The wicket-keeper batter hit the winning runs to give India a hard fought win, however, KL was distraught after hitting the winning six.
KL Rahul missed out on century
Notably, India needed 5 runs to win the game with KL Rahul on 91. The 31-year-old needed a four and a six to reach his century. With that in mind, KL hit Pat Cummins’ delivery over extra cover. However, the timing on that shot was so good that the ball went over the boundary for a six, denying KL a much deserved century.
The batter was down on his legs in shock. But celebrated the win after few seconds.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were the stars for Team India as hosts registered a six-wicket win over Australia in their ODI World Cup campaign opener. Rahul hit 97 not out while Kohli scored 85 as the duo stitched a crucial 165-run stand to rescue India who were at one point were are 2/ 3 in the chase of 200 runs. Earlier, Indian spinners ruled the roost as the side bowled out Australia for 199. Ravindra Jadeja scalped three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah picked two each. Siraj, Ashwin and Hardik Pandya plucked one each.
