How can Paul Pogba still avoid long doping ban after testing positive for DHEA?

Paul Pogba was found to have a banned substance in his system which is DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone). DHEA helps to boost testosterone production. WADA has already prohibited DHEA.

Juventus star Paul Pogba is hoping to avoid a big ban for doping as the substance he tested positive for was not testosterone. It should be a relief call for the midfielder. Earlier last month, the Frenchman was suspended from playing as the drug test found elevated levels of testosterone in his system.

This week, Paul Pogba failed in drug test and this result came after the Serie A game against Udinese on August 20. It was confirmed after his B sample was also tested positive. Now, a new report states that the former United midfielder can face a relief in the ban. The 30-year-old was supposed to be banned for up to four years.

The World Cup winner was found to have a banned substance in his system which is DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone). DHEA helps to boost testosterone production. WADA has already prohibited DHEA and if any player is found guilty of taking this substance, he gets a punishment of four years. It helps the player to improve their stamina and enhance their performance on the ground.

Dehydroepiandrosterone is an anabolic androgenic steroid. Reports add that a leading anti-doping lawyer says there could be an explanation that leads to a reduced suspension because of its presence in supplements. Pogba’s spokesperson denied it. US Anti-Doping Agency announced last year that UFC fighter Bobby Green had received a 6-month ban after testing positive for a DHEA which is the same steroid used by Pogba. Bobby Green gets reduced suspension by the governing body.

The American had not realised that DHEA was banned after watching a video on social media. He claimed he started taking the supplement after his wife bought it from a supermarket. This steroid is legal in the US and Green provided evidence to USADA (US Anti-Doping Agency) that he bought it from the market.

Pual Pogba’s comeback to Juventus is in dubut. He made a summer move in 2022 from Manchester United. He later faced injuries which kept him out for the major part of Serie A. He was also getting offers from the Saudi clubs but he wanted to play for Juventus only. With the current situation, Pogba might be out of the future plan for the Italian club.
