Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy created history by becoming the first-ever Indians to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. They defeated South Korea’s Choi Solgyu and Kim Wonho 21-18, 21-16 in the final. Meanwhile, marred by controversy, the Men’s Kabaddi team clinched the gold medal after defeating Iran. Indian Men’s cricket team also won the gold medal. In Wrestling, Deepak Punia had to settle for silver.
Earlier, the nation’s Women’s Kabaddi team made the mark even more special by bagging the gold medal. They defeated Chinese Taipei 26-25 in a thrilling encounter. Archers Ojas Pravin and Jyothi Surekha Vennam also won the Individual titles in their respective compound archery events. India’s 17-year old Archer Aditi Swami meanwhile won the bronze medal in the same event, while Abhishek Verma settled for silver. With this India have 103 medals from this edition of the Asian Games.
