“That won’t happen to me,” Lewis Hamilton on comeback after retirement

Lewis Hamilton talked briefly about his future in Formula 1, whether he plans on retiring and making a comeback, and his 8th world title.

Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest to have ever driven a Formula 1 car. He arrived in Formula 1 as a rookie for McLaren and gradually became a legend with Mercedes. Recently he talked about his future in Formula 1, and his 8th world title. Lewis Hamilton also spoke a little about the Red Bull and Max Verstappen domination, and whether he plans to come back after retiring.

Plans for a Comeback

Many legends in Formula 1 came back to the sport after retiring, the most recent one being Fernando Alonso. There are talks of Sebastian Vettel competing again albeit in the World Endurance Championship.

Lewis Hamilton rejected this idea, saying it was not for him. He said, “That won’t happen to me.”

“When the chapter is over, it’s over. I can’t imagine standing in the paddock or garage without then getting into a car. But as I said before, never say never.”

Stopping after the 8th Title

Lewis Hamilton said he has never thought of the 8th Formula 1 title as a stopping point. He will continue till he feels like it. When asked, he agreed with the fact that Mercedes need to deliver a good car to him.

Lewis Hamilton said, “I never said that the eighth title was a stop signal for me. But I’ll only know that when I actually get there.”

On Mercedes delivering a good car: “That’s what they say – without a great car you can hardly achieve the big goals in Formula 1.”

“No one can.”

Max Verstappen and Red Bull Dominance

Lewis Hamilton also commented on the dominance of Red Bull and Max Verstappen. He said that Red Bull has raised the bar for competency in Formula 1. He also congratulated Max Verstappen on doing a faultless job and told him to just keep doing what he’s doing.

Lewis Hamilton said, “What do you want to hear? All I can say is: ‘Keep doing what you are doing’. Max is doing an extraordinary job at Red Bull at the moment.”

If Lewis Hamilton wins his 8th Title with Mercedes, it will be a landmark moment for Formula 1.
