‘A victory in Mexico means everything to me’, Sergio Perez hopeful of a turnaround

Sergio Perez dreams of winning the Mexican GP at least once. However, he also talks about how the RB19 has been developed away from him.

Sergio Perez is a man struggling in Formula 1 currently. This is surprising to say for someone 2nd in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Standings. But it’s his teammate who is on top, and he is miles ahead of him. Perez talks about his dream of winning the Mexican GP and how the RB19 has suited him less and less.

Mexican GP Highs

Sergio Perez is no stranger to the podium of the Mexican GP. He became the first Mexican to take a podium at the Formula 1 Mexican GP in 2021. He secured the 3rd place in his Red Bull. A year later, he repeated the feat in front of his adoring home crowd.

Dream of Winning the Mexican GP

Sergio Perez says that after winning the World Championship, winning the Mexican GP is his biggest dream. He also wants it to be on merit. He doesn’t want Max Verstappen to give him the win.

Sergio Perez says, “After becoming world champion, it’s my biggest dream: a victory in Mexico means everything to me.”

“It’s an exhausting battle every year, with the home race and the GP in Austin just a week earlier. There’s a lot that comes my way during those races, but as soon as the visor comes down, my focus is on racing. I’ll do everything to win in Mexico. Will I ask Verstappen to let me win? No — Otherwise, that victory would mean nothing to me. I want to achieve it on my own merit.”

Red Bull developed the car away from him

Sergio Perez stated that at the start of the 2023 Formula 1 season, the Red Bull RB19 suited him perfectly. However, as Red Bull developed the car, it went away from him. He pinpointed the Miami GP from where things started going downhill. At that race, Max Verstappen won from 9th on the grid despite Sergio Perez starting from pole.

After that, he had some crashes as well and failed to get into Q3 on numerous occasions. This severely impacted his confidence and there was no coming back.
