Asian Games: Lovlina Borgohain settles for silver, Indian boxers return without gold

Lovlina Borgohain is the only Indian to make it to the final of the boxing competition at Asian Games this year.

The last Indian boxer in the fray at the Asian Games, Lovlina Borgohain ended up losing her final bout in the women’s 75kg category on Wednesday. The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist lost to China’s Li Qian with a split verdict of 2-3 going against her. Her loss also meant that the Indian boxing contingent returned without a gold medal at the Asiad.

Lovlina Borgohain’s Journey at Asian Games

Li Qian is a two-time Olympic medal winner and won the bronze in the women’s middleweight class at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and a silver medal in the same event at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Earlier, Lovlina marched into the final of the 75kg category by beating Thailand’s Baison Maneekon 5-0 in the semi-final on Tuesday.
Borgohain outplayed her opponent Baison as she looked focused and determined in the game. She had a great defence which failed Baison’s aggressive play.

Lovlina has already booked the Olympic quota for the Paris Olympics after Nikhat Zareen, Preeti, and Parveen Hooda.
