World Cup already superhit for Disney-Star, earns big bucks from advertising & sponsorships

Ahead of World Cup, official broadcaster Disney Star has earned big bucks after acquiring plethora of sponsors

The ICC World Cup 2023 is upon us and ahead of the mega cricketing extravaganza, the official TV and digital broadcaster Disney Star has gained 9 eminent sponsors. These include some heavyweight names like PhonePe, IndusInd bank, Coca-Cola, Mahindra, and others.

A total of around 50 sponsors have been lined up to be a part of the tournament. The official broadcaster too has set different categories for the pricing of the different sponsors. For co-presenting slots, Disney Star has set the price at Rs 150 crore, for powered by sponsors the price range is Rs 75 crore and associate sponsors come at Rs 40 crore.

The ICC World Cup is a mega affair and Disney Star has set their revenue target from advertising to be around 4000 crores. IndusInd bank, Jindal Panthers, and others have all been roped in as broadcast partners. On the other hand, Louis Philippe, Booking.com, MRF, and others fall under the slot of digital partners.

As per experts in the media, Disney Star can very well make around 2500 crores with a hefty chunk of the money (28%) set to be deducted as GST.

“Depending on the appetite and the budget, clients are opting for sponsorships or customised packages that Disney Star has created,” said Mindshare South Asia CEO Amin Lakhani.

Among all the major sponsors, one of the latest additions to their ranks is PhonePe. The digital payment provider paid a whopping sum of 150 crores to be one of the co-sponsors for the TV broadcast for ICC World Cup.

“With an astonishing 266 million viewers tuning in to the Star Sports’ live broadcast for the tournament, excluding the final, Asia Cup 2023 has become the most-watched edition of the tournament,” Star Sports said.

The ICC World Cup on the other hand will have a massive impact on India’s economy (Know More). It is predicted that India’s GDP will see a rise of 0.048% which accounts to around $1.6 billion.
