Asian Games: Darius Chenai wins bronze in Men’s Trap, bags 22nd medal in shooting

Darius Chenai's bronze helped India culminate the medal tally in this edition of Asian Games in shooting with a total of 22 medals.

Indian shooter Darius Kynan Chenai secured a bronze medal in the men’s trap individual final at the ongoing Asiad in Hangzhou on Sunday. This is Chena’s second medal on the day after he won the gold medal in the team event alongside Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Tondaiman. Chenai’s medal wraps up India’s best-ever run in shooting in the history of the Asiad as the sport has yielded a total of 22 medals.

With 32 points, he captured the bronze medal. The gold medal went to China’s Ying Qi with 46 points while the silver was bagged by Kuwait’s Talat Alrashidi with 45 points. India’s rich haul of 32 medals overall in shooting in this edition includes 7 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Earlier in the Men’s team event, the trio of Chenai, Zoravar and Prithviraj ended up with 361 points on the leaderboard. With that they won the 11th gold medal for India overall in this edition of the Asiad. Kuwait took home the silver medal while China finished third to win bronze.

India Women’s Trap team wins silver

Meanwhile in the Women’s team trap event, India’s Manisha Keer finished sixth with a score of 16, failing to bag a medal. In the Women’s team event, the trio of Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak, and Rajeshwari Kumari secured a silver medal.

With a total of 337 points, India finished behind China that took home the gold medal with a total of 357 points. The bronze medal was won by Kazakhstan with 336 points.
