Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee beat World No. 2 China’s Meng Chen and Yidi Wang to assure a bronze medal in the women’s doubles event of the Table Tennis as the Indian duo stormed into the semi-final at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday.
The Indian women’s pair triumphed by 3-1 (11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9) in the TT doubles quarter-finals. Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee dominated the first game and did not allow the Chinese pair to get a rhythm. India won the first set 11-5.
They continued their form in the second set as they clinched the game by the same scoreline 11-5. In the third game, China made a comeback and denied India to win the game and then the match. China won the third set by 11-5.

However, India sealed the match in the fourth game by winning against the World no. 2 by 11-9 win. In Women’s singles, Manika Batra lost her quarterfinal match against China’s Yidi Wang by 2-4 while Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar failed to advance to the semi-finals of the men’s doubles on Saturday as they lost 3-2 against the Republic of Korea’s Woojin Jang and Jonghoon Lim.
